Redmi 2 : Redefining entry level budget phone

We at the Quill got our hands on the Redmi 2 from Xiaomi. This phone is crafted with the entry level budget buyer in mind. We believe that this one will change the dynamics of that segment. This time, we also wanted to stop doing the same routine, typed out and bench-marked review. So we did a youtube video to explain why this phone is great!

It is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and Adreno 306 GPU, it comes with 8GB internal storage out of which 5.75GB is available to the user. The phone also features a microSD card slot that supports storage cards of up to 32GB

The phone has a 4.7-inch 720p fully-laminated IPS display that has AGC Dragontrail glass protection. Colors are vivid and brilliant. Readability outdoors is impressive though the display is a little reflective. Viewing angles are really wide and there is no distortion

It has a 2,200mAh battery (removable) and we used it for 15-16 hours with the screen brightness at the highest level and with 3G data on. Again a good thing in this segment.

The phone has an 8MP rear camera accompanied by an LED flash. The 5-element lens has an ƒ/2.2 aperture to capture more light, and 28mm wide-angle lens to cover a wider area. The camera hardware of the phone is clearly the best in the segment. The front camera is also good for clicking selfies and for video calls. It kept saying that I was a 24 year old male, it made my day! Face beautification had me stunned, I actually looked good!

Connectivity wise the phone supports 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and microUSB 2.0. The dual SIM 4G data standby with software switching is brilliant! It supports both Band 40 (2300MHz TD LTE) and Band 3 (1800MHz FDD LTE) network bands for 4G.

The phone scored 20,309 in Antutu, 11,818 in Quadrant and 54.1 in Nenamark 2 benchmark tests.

So without wasting much time. Here’s the video

 Verdict:

This phone will change the way you look at budget phones and it is definitely going to change the default specs in that segment. This will be the phone to beat now in the entry segment. That being said, I am waiting for a higher ROM and higher RAM variant. But then, that is me and I am like that only. See the ratings below, close your eyes and go buy this phone! It is a no-brainer!
