Honor 6x Initial Impressions: Mighty Impressive

Honor 6x

We have spent some time with the Honor 6x which Huawei fondly calls the Swag Phone. The device is very eagerly anticipated and there are many good things being said about it. it sports a dual rear camera and promises to bring a very rich and smooth experience to users. Here are our first impressions of this phone.

Honor 6x

Huawei has been taking the Honor sub brand from strength to strength and doing a brilliant job of it. The Honor 6x is testament to the commitment that the brand has in taking that to the next step. Right out of the box we immediately could see a great design and a very consistent premium feel to the handset. The rear is made of metal with plastic top and bottom plates. The rear dual camera is bang in the middle of the back and there is a fingerprint scanner right below it. The flash is on the left of the camera when you hold it and on the right when you turn it over and look at it.

The device feels very light and is very thin. The slightly understated curve in the back makes it a breeze to hold the device in your hand. It does not slip and is pretty neat to grip. The dual camera setup is very different from the Honor 8 that we have seen. There is a second camera that helps enhance the depth of field for very shot you take with it.

The HiSilicon Kirin 655 Octa-core (4×2.1 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.7 GHz Cortex-A53) processor was able to handle most of what we threw at it without even a whimper or any stutter. Absolutely no lag anywhere at all. The Mali-T830MP2 GPU is good support for the processor.

The Dual 12 MP + 2 MP camera suports phase detection autofocus has a 1/2.9″ sensor size, 1.25 µm pixel size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama and the usual bells and whistles that Huawei is noww famous for. There are a lot of nifty preset modes with the camera, there is a good food mode that we particularly enjoyed a lot. Coming to the look and feel again, the design language of the Huawei Mate series is very evident here. That being said, there are subtle differences between the Honor 6x and the Huawei Mate 8.

The OS is EMUI based on Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow) with a planned upgrade to v7.0 (Nougat) and is up to the task for most things that you would like to do with the phone. The battery is pretty strong, it is rated at 3340 mAH and it is one of the big strengths of this phone. It very easily runs for a whole day on above average usage and ends the day with about 30% juice still left on it. Given the size and weight of this phone, we were very surprised  and impressed with the battery. Packs quite a punch.

Before you ask, yes it supports your Jio SIM and VoLTE calls.  The usual sensors like Fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, proximity, compass are all present and do very well for the above average usage that we put them through.

If we tell you more about it now, the review will become redundant. So more later in the review. For now, we are mighty impressed with this power packed and interesting device!
