ZTE, a global networking and mobility player is entering the mobile phone market in India with a new device. They have been teasing this new device on their digital channels

ZTE Phone

ZTE has been in India since 1999 as a networking infrastructure and end user solution provider. They have the top telcos and service providers as their clients. They are very firmly placed in the Top 5 mobile phone makers in China and are in the Top 10 in the world. They are known to spend 10% of their annual revenue for R&D efforts globally to stay current and relevant.  They have been granted a large number of patents globally. They also hold the record for the first company that came out with a dual GPS/GLONASS device.

They have a good footprint in 143 countries globally. With all this on their side, they are now turning their attention to the mobile device space in India. Their India operations are already strong with about 2000 people in a 5000 crore strong operation here in our country. They count Airtel, MTS, BSNL Idea Cellular and Tata DoCoMo among their top Indian clients. If you have ever used a data card on your laptop in India, in all probability, it was made by ZTE.

So given all the background and stability, it will be very interesting to see what they bring to the mobile device space in India. They have been teasing sketches of their device and we were able to see that they are suggesting a budget or mid-range device, possibly the Blade series with a good battery life. Sachin Batra, CMO of ZTE India – Terminal has been teasing this on social media actively.

Going by the tweets, the “Hello Again, India” message looks like a reconnect to the legacy that they have and given the reference to design and battery, it looks like a Blade series device with a good battery.

We will share more information with you when we get it. For now, we are waiting to get our hands on this device and tell you about it. Watch this space!
