At a first glance, the device looks impressive with its shiny metal back and the device has a unibody design which is curved on all the four sides and with the dimensions of 156.5 mm X 75.3 mm X 7.6 mm. The device weighs 165 grams approximately and is durable. According to Honor, “Honor took 15 months to get the look and feel of the Honor 7X just right, and went through 28 different prototypes during that time.”   We think that their effort has paid off. The device looks premium with its design and is light and comfortable to hold in the hands. It has 2.5D glass which makes the device look premium.

The volume rocker and the power buttons are placed on the right side of the device and the sim slot and micro SD slot is present on the left. The speakers are present in the bottom with audio jack and micro USB port. The back of the device sports dual camera with flash on the top left and the fingerprint sensor is present little below.

The screen comes with 5.93in, 18:9 aspect ratio with Full HD+ view. The 2160×1080 resolution makes the visuals look crisp. Honor has gone for an IPS panel and still it looks great. The wider viewing angles are good and looks bright and colors are vibrant. Honor 7x has thinner bezels which gives us immersive experience when we play videos and games. We played some of the highly graphical games like Injustice 2. There were no lags as such. Some of the games are not compatible with the 18:9 view.

Coming to the software part, Honor 7x runs with Android 7.0 Nougat with Huawei’s own Emotion UI 5.1 on top. There are lots of bloatware which Huawei could have avoided. We cans see some apps which take too much space which we do not use that much.

The phone is powered by a Kirin 659 Chipset, which is an octa-core processor. The smartphone has three memory variants – 4 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage with a provision for Micro SD card which can be used to extend up to 256 GB.

The device comes with a battery power of 3340 mAh which lasts well beyond a day. The performance of the phone is brilliant and there was no lag in multi-tasking as we kept using games, videos, Facebook and mails. The good thing that we noticed here was that even during our video loops and heavy gaming sessions, the device did not show any signs of heating up or slowing down. This is a big deal in this segment.

Coming to the camera part, Honor 7X has a dual lens rear camera – 16 megapixel main lens and a secondary 2 megapixel lens. Huawei and Honor are now masters at the dual camera setup and this is very evident here too. The cameras do not disappoint at all. Some of the photos we took came well. But some shots were overexposed and jaded.  Here are some of the photos taken.

There are lots of different modes in the camera like Good Food, Slow motion, Night shot, Light painting, etc. We took some low light photos and checked. The low light photos came out very well. There is no loss of quality when we zoom and take the photos. Here are some of the photos we took in low light.

The 8 MP Selfie camera has some of the functions like effects and filter. With effects function, we can take our photos with different effects and the filters are also good to use. There are some more features like gesture control in which you can turn your palm to the camera so that the selfie is taken with a countdown. But the selfies we took did not match up to the expectations.

The device supports WI-FI connectivity, WI-FI Direct, Huawei share, Wi-FI Hotspot, WI-FI Bridge and blue tooth connectivity. The WI-FI Bridge feature in the smartphone lets us to use our device as a  router WI-FI  and we can connect further up to 4 devices. The device also supports VoLte.

The sim slot supports two Nano SIMS or a Nano SIM and a Micro SD card. It is a hybrid SIM slot. Honor 7X does not support fast charging. So you end up charging the smartphone overnight. This is a disadvantage.

There’s one-key split-screen so you can carry on watching a video while you reply to an email or message. You’ll also find the App Twin menu option in which you can create one more app twin and sign in with different ids and use.

Verdict:

Honor has done it again with the Honor 7x! At a starting price of Rs 12,999/- , it is very difficult to find a phone that has all these features like the 18:9 screen and the good dual camera setup. If you are in the hunt for a good phone that does not bite big into your wallet, the Honor 7x is definitely a very good choice
