Motorola is one of the strongest mobile brands globally and they have been recently upping the game in India with a flurry of device launches in various segments. The latest from Moto is the Moto Power One which is an intelligent mix of a large battery and Google’s Android One program. Here are my first impressions of this phone
The Moto G and the Moto E effectively kicked off the trend for stock android experience here in the Indian market and from there on the other brands latched on to it. So it would not be an exaggeration to say that Moto wrote the playbook here. But for some reason, they were a bit silent. Now they are back with the Moto One Power. The phone has very solid mid-range specs and a 5000 mAH battery and is part of the Android One program. This means that the device will get regular updates for two years and will run vanilla android out of the box.
The phone comes with a 6.2 inch (15.7cm) 19:9 Max Vision Full HD+ display. There is a notch on the top of the display. Perfect for multitasking and holding in one hand, motorola one power’s wide view screen lets you enjoy a cup of coffee while watching your favorite show on your way to work. The display has a19:9 aspect ratio. The phone has a storage capacity of 64GB expandable upto 256GB via a dedicated microsSD card slot to store all your photos, songs and movies. With 4GB of memory and a decent Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 636 Octa-core processor, motorola one power responds to your touch in an instant and gives a seamless experience while playing games, watching movies, and doing other tasks on your phone.
The large battery also makes the phone on the heavier side, weighing in at 205 grams. The Moto One Power has bucked the current glassy trend and gone with a smooth metal finish and . Moto has given the traditional ring-bound horizontal dual cameras a miss and gone with a more functional dual camera arranged vertically in the top left corner. The fingerprint sensor is a dimple on the body with the Moto Batwing logo etched on it. This gives the phone a very distinct and premium look. The phone is also splash proof.
Having said that the finish is metal and the battery is large, it must be noted that the phone is very comfortable to grip with one hand and handling it with one hand is also a breeze. The visible antenna banding and the buff metal finish make it standout from the competition. Also on the back is a dual camera unit — A 16MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 1.12um pixel pitch, and a secondary 5MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture to capture depth information. The LED flash unit paired with the camera houses a colour correction sensor like the Moto G6. Up front is a 12MP sensor with f/2.0 for selfies that can also take portrait shots. The design department has gone to work to give you a phone that looks and works practically without any frills and they have achieved that. When I pulled the device out of the box, I felt like Moto has got it the A-Game on like the initial days of the Moto E and Moto G series.
The 5000 mAH battery ensures that you stay powered longer with up to 2 days of battery life, so you can watch your favorite movie while traveling and listen to your favorite artist wherever you go. And get up to 6 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes with the included TurboPower charger in the box. So far in the initial stages, the battery is standing the phone in very good stead. Count me impressed in that department.
Overall, as far as first impressions go, it looks like Moto have come back into the reckoning and are all set to take on the Xiaomi, ASUS and other brands that have been playing in the segment so far. As someone who was relying on Moto phones as his daily drivers, I can assure that this augurs well for the brand. Pricing the phone at INR 15,999/- is a very good move and will make a big difference in the Indian market.
