Since founding, OnePlus has been attentive to its users’ demands and designed phones that exceeded their needs and expectations. To prepare for 5G, OnePlus established its own research labs and began research on5G way back in 2016. A year later, it proudly started working with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., on OnePlus’ 5G device development. In August of 2018, the OnePlus 5G Project Team successfully established a 5G connection to Qualcomm Technologies’ laboratory located in San Diego, in the US.
Pete Lau made the world’s first 5G tweet by connecting a prototype device to a 5G Non-standalone Network, via an LTE b7 + 5G NR n78 air interface. By Never Settling, OnePlus is constantly challenging itself to deliver the best and only the best. That’s why 5G is of great strategic importance to OnePlus.
By partnering with carriers such as EE to push forward the era of 5G multi-gigabit connectivity, OnePlus will be the first to release a 5G commercial smartphone in the UK. EE runs the UK’s biggest and fastest mobile network, offering superfast 4G in more places than any other operator, and will be switching on 5G sites in 16 UK cities in 2019. OnePlus and EE are working on an R&D partnership to ensure the best possible 5G connected experience for customers.
Marc Allera, CEO of BT Consumer & EE, said: “EE and OnePlus have a shared vision: to give our customers the best-connected experience possible. We’re working together on cutting edge technology to deliver that, and we’re leading the world on the journey to 5G. Adding 5G to the UK’s number one 4G network will increase reliability, increase speeds, and keep our customers connected where they need it most. We have the ambition to connect our customers to 4G, 5G or Wi-Fi 100% of the time.”
OnePlus has been collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies on 5G development since 2017 and have made significant strides in getting a device ready for 5G commercialization in 2019. OnePlus will be among the first smartphone companies to feature the new flagship with the Snapdragon 855, to provide users with unmatched imaging, gaming, and intelligence for the new decade of wireless experience.
“Our strong relationship with mobile industry leaders like Qualcomm Technologies and EE makes us believe that we could bring the best 5G device to the world. OnePlus’ core strength is having a tech community with more than 5.5 million users from 196 countries around the world. Our mission to tackle 5G head on was decided together with our community members. No other company out there is better suited to take on 5G than OnePlus,” says Pete Lau.
