OnePlus 7T Pro Review: A True Flagship And An Excellent Performer

OnePlus 7T Pro

OnePlus 7T Pro was recently launched amid much fanfare in London just sometime ago. The device is a successor to the OnePlus 7 Pro that helped OnePlus move into serious flagship zone. This device packs a lot of class and power. I spent considerable time with this new offering from OnePlus and here is my review of this phone.

The design of this phone is pretty much identical to the OnePlus 7 Pro. There are hardly any differences in the front and the rear of the phone. The usual sight of the alert slider and the power button on the right side and the volume rocker on the left. There is a popup camera for selfies. There is a very slight difference in the rear where you will see a laser auto-focus assembly on the left of the customary triple camera setup. The phone looks premium and feels very premium in the hand. Ticks all the right boxes.

Smooth, responsive, and vivid, the OnePlus 7T Pro’s 6.67” Fluid  AMOLED features a 90 Hz refresh rate, QHD+ resolution, and HDR10+ technology.  A layer of gently-curved glass extends from edge to edge for an incredibly immersive viewing experience and a remarkably  premium look and feel.

OnePlus 7T Pro

The cutting-edge 90 Hz refresh rate introduced on the OnePlus 7 Pro makes its return on the OnePlus 7T Pro, with an edge-to-edge display for seamless viewing.  Whether you’re browsing the web or scrolling through photos, experience it all in smooth, responsive, borderless 90 Hz. The OnePlus 7T Pro’s spacious display isn’t just unbelievably smooth—it’s also unbelievably clear, boasting an impressive 3120×1440 resolution for 516 pixels per inch. Videos are crisp, images are sharp, and text is smooth, bold, and easy to read.

There are people who say that the 90 Hz refresh rate is not easy to discern for the human eye, but believe me when I say this, once you get used to the 90 Hz refresh rate, you will find it extremely hard to go back to a 60 Hz display. The difference is massive and very visible. OnePlus has gone ahead and given a commitment that all their future devices will come with a 90 Hz refresh rate on their displays. This is good news.

Reading Mode on the OnePlus 7T Pro now supports full-color content. Enable on any screen to optimize saturation, gamut, and contrast ratio for improved clarity, readability, and comfort. This is a very nice thing to have if you are a power user and want to safeguard your eyes and still be productive.

OnePlus 7T Pro

The OnePlus 7T Pro has a triple camera set up. Three independent cameras work in concert for exceptional versatility, stunning clarity, and true-to-life color reproduction.

Main Lens: Featuring the Sony 48 MP IMX586 sensor, the OnePlus 7T Pro’s main lens is ideal for everyday photography. It features a 7P lens structure, f/1.6 aperture, and optical image stabilization (OIS) for detailed photos and videos.

Ultra Wide Angle Lens: When you need to fit more in frame, switch over to the 16 MP ultra wide angle lens with an impressive 117° field of view, perfect for expansive landscapes, group photos, and cramped spaces.

Telephoto Lens: For long-range photography, the dedicated 8 MP telephoto lens produces 3x optical zoom at an aperture of f/2.4.  It also boasts OIS for clear shots at a distance.

The OnePlus 7T Pro’s intelligent photography optimizations automatically streamline settings and post-processing algorithms for more consistently impressive photos. UltraShot particularly focuses on optimizing images in difficult lighting, allowing users to capture better sunrises, sunsets, and professional backlit portraits.

Utilizing both the telephoto lens and main lens in Portrait Mode, users can choose between two distinct focal lengths—each producing its own unique aesthetic. Dramatic portraits and professional headshots are bolder and more expressive than ever before.

New on the OnePlus 7T Pro, an all-new Macro Mode lets you shoot from as little as 2.5 centimeters away in full quality, capturing all details—ideal for small objects and intricate textures. Nightscape Mode combines information from multiple frames (with varying exposures) to produce a wider dynamic range. The result? Bright, clear, and dramatic photos—even in low-light environments. Available on both the main lens and the ultra wide angle lens.

Combining OIS and EIS technologies, the OnePlus 7T Pro’s new hybrid image stabilization (HIS) compensates for unwanted bumps, shakes, and jolts for remarkably smooth videos.Tucked away when not in use, the 16 MP front camera instantly springs into action when needed. This innovative solution allows for an immersive edge-to-edge display without sacrificing a premium front-facing camera.

What all this means is that when you pull out the phone and take pictures, the phone easily delivers clear and crisp pictures very consistently. The colors were very well fleshed out and there wasn’t any noticeable distortion or noise. The saturation levels were good and there was just the right amount of detail in the pictures. The improved night photography algorithm also does well.

Here are some pictures I took with the phone

The OnePlus 7T Pro is powered by the latest mobile platform, the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 855+, which renders graphics 15% faster and significantly augments CPU performance compared to the standard Snapdragon™ 855. The review unit I got had 8 GB RAM and 256 GB Storage. With data speeds of up to 23.2 Gb/s, UFS 3.0 means faster file transfers, quicker loading times, and smoother overall system performance. And with 256 GB of storage, you’ll never run out of room for photos, music, or games. The OnePlus 7T Pro has been upgraded with a more powerful processor, updated unlocking algorithms, and the latest in-display fingerprint reader. Unlocking is as fast as ever, and it’s now more secure and accurate.

When it comes to performance, the OnePlus 7T Pro stands up and delivers big time. The phone is blazing fast and never stutters or lags under any kind of load. Large number of open apps, heavy duty gaming or long hours of streaming, the phone just stands up and delivers. There is no sign of any issue whatsoever. This is one of the, if not the fastest phones I have used in a long time. Team OnePlus has delivered a speed demon with this one. I call this phone the flash.

Developed alongside the world-renowned eSports pro team, Fnatic mode transforms the OnePlus 7T Pro into a dedicated gaming powerhouse. When enabled, calls and notifications are blocked, network data is streamlined, and performance is optimized for incredibly smooth, uninterrupted gaming. Equipped with a powerful haptic motor, the OnePlus 7T Pro provides natural, responsive tactile feedback. It’s quieter, more accurate, and more satisfying. So, if you are a gamer, OnePlus has you covered and you can just let it rip without any worries whatsoever.

With all-new Warp Charge 30T technology and the OnePlus 7T Pro’s improved 4085 mAh battery, charging speeds are up to 23% faster than last generation’s technology. You get a full day’s power in just half an hour. Warp Charge 30T isn’t just faster. It’s smarter, too. Unlike other quick charging solutions, the OnePlus 7T Pro stays cool and charges at consistent speeds, even while playing intensive games. On a single charge, I was able to easily use the phone for well over a day with above average usage with a mix of 4G and WiFi with a democratic amount of calls, social media and streaming with gaming thrown in.

Pure, fast, and polished, OxygenOS enhances stock Android with powerful features and sophisticated design. It’s about smooth  performance, elegant visuals, and useful features. Like always, it is there and yet it is not in your face. The beauty of Oxygen OS is the fact that there are thoughtful customizations but they appear only when you need them. Android 10 out of the box adds more to the utility of Oxygen OS. It is blazing fast and butter smooth. A key factor in the smooth experience that you get in the OnePlus 7T Pro.

No detail is too small to be perfected. OxygenOS 10.0 delivers an incredibly fluid experience with over 370 powerful optimizations that improve overall performance, animations, visuals, gestures, and unlocking speed.

The OxygenOS gallery app packs new and exciting features for improved convenience and security. Safely store private photos in hidden albums, while the Smart Album feature automatically generates memorable video collages. You’ll also now be able to sort and search with ease, thanks to scene and facial recognition features. All this happens in-device.

OnePlus 7T Pro

Designed to encourage healthy screen-time balance, Zen Mode allows OnePlus 7T Pro users to temporarily disable certain notifications and apps. Now, Zen Mode features additional personalization options and flexibility, with the ability to adjust the time duration from 20 to 60 minutes. Very good if you are conscious about the quality of your life.

OnePlus 7T Pro

The call quality on the device was flawless. The phone supports dual SIM, dual VoLTE and VoLTE support was very good. The usual connectivity options are available with the phone. There is no headphone jack as OnePlus has discontinued it for a while now. The handset is not IP certified but the company says that it can take the occasional splash. There is no support for wireless charging yet. But then OnePlus has been always about consumer based features and not just adding things for the sake of adding.

Verdict

At a price of 53,999/- the OnePlus 7T is a true flagship that is excellent performer with great features. It is an ideal upgrade if you are moving from the OnePlus 6T or the OnePlus 7.
