Smartron T-band Review: Practical And Reliable

Smartron is one of the India’s Technology brand that has grown steadily has recently launched its health band – t-band priced at Rs. 4,999/-. It is the first health band to have features like Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring and Electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring and it also measures fatigue and stress levels. With the help of its ‘thealth’ app Smartron t-band gives us our overall Health Index score which is a combination of activity tracking, calorie count, sleeping patterns, stress & fatigue levels as well as Blood Pressure and Heart Health. We had a chance use the t-band for some time and here is our review of the health band.

Let us go to the specifications first and then we will go to the review.

The design of the t-band is very impressive as it looks sleek and stylish. The t-band comes with silicone strap with stainless steel buckle and we can customize the watch with 18mm changeable watch straps which we can buy from any of the watch outlet. The Smartron t-band is also dust and water resistant and has IP rating. It is compatible with both Android and IOS phones.

The display of the smartron t-band consists of (128×64) 0.96″ PM OLED and the display is quite sharp and crisp. Unlike some other health bands, Smartron t-band is also visible on a bright sunlight. When we went outside and checked in the hot sunny day, we found that the display is bright enough to see.

The Smartron t-band consists of 3-Axis Accelerometer, ECG, Optical heart rate monitor (PPG) as the sensors so that we can check the overall health in the same band. The t-band has a battery of 100mAH Lithium-polymer which runs for about 1 and a half days when we use all the features for most of the time and it lasts for about 5 days in standby.

The Smartron t-band is powered by MTK2523/MTK2511 and has 4MB of RAM and we can connect with our phone using Bluetooth.

The t-band comes with features like Call, Text and Application Notifications with DnD, Alarms, Sedentary Reminders, and Wrist Detection. We can call with the band itself and we can have upto 10 customizable alarms in the band.

First of all we have to pair the t-band with our mobile phone. This part is little tricky. First we have to wake up the t-band by touching it. Then we have to double tap the t-band’s metal so that we get a pairing code. Now we have to follow the instructions in the thealth app and pair the t-band. Once we have paired the t-band, we can easily find our step count, sleeping pattern, ECG, PWTT, etc. When we press and hold the metal present in the t-band, it goes into the exercise mode. We can measure our heart rate while we exercise.

The t-band uses Pulse Wave Transit Time (PWTT) method to calculate the Blood pressure. It captures the PWTT using Bio Sensor (ECG) and PPG sensor, and calculates Blood pressure based on PWTT value. PWTT, pulse wave transit time, is a new non-invasive parameter which can indicate change in blood pressure. PWTT is time taken for the pulse wave to travel from heart to peripheral artery.  First we have to calibrate t-band to get precise and more accurate BP measurement. Calibration is a comparison between a known measurement (the standard) and the measurement using your t-band. During calibration, t-band adjusts the parameters of algorithm to increase the precision and accuracy of the measurement.

When we are idle over a period of time, the health band reminds us by vibrating. It tells us that we are idle for some time and we have to walk. We can also read SMS from the t-band. These options can be enabled or disabled according to our choice. We can also keep up to 10 customizable alarms in the t-band.

Verdict

Smartron’s t-band is a good way to make us healthy. With its ECG monitoring and blood pressure monitoring, there is no need to go to other devices for taking this reading. The health band is also visible in sunlight making it easy to see. It is worth a buy for people who are health conscious. Overall, a practical and reliable device.
