Coolpad Cool 3 Plus First Impressions: A Budget Phone That Could Have Been Better

Coolpad has recently launched a budget phone. The smartphone comes in three variants – 2GB and 16GB , 3GB 32GB  and 4GB and 64GB storage options. The Coolpad Cool 3 Plus comes with a price tag of Rs 5,999 for the 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage variant, while the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage option is priced at Rs 6,499. The Cool 3 with 4GB RAM + 64GB option is priced at Rs 7,999. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 processor and runs on Android 9 Pie. The smartphone also comes with a 3000mAh battery. The smartphone weighs 136 grams and the product dimensions are 14.6 x 0.8 x 7.1 cm.

We had a chance to use the 3GB and 32GB version and here is our first impression.

At a first glance, Coolpad Cool 3 Plus looks good with shiny light blue colour which gradually becomes dark blue in the bottom. The device is made of plastic with glass finish. There is 13MP camera present on the top left with LED flash kept vertically below. The fingerprint sensor is present just below in the middle of the device. We can see the hybrid SIM slot in the left side of the smartphone and the volume rockers and power button on the right side of the smartphone. On the bottom there is a microUSB port present in between the speaker grills. We can also see the audio jack present on the top of the smartphone. We cannot use the smartphone without cover as we can see that the smartphone attracts fingerprints.

Coming to the display, Coolpad Cool 3 Plus comes with 5.71 inch HD+ display with dewdrop notch on the screen. Thee smartphone comes with a screen resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels with an aspect ratio of 19:9. The display is quite good and thee colours are reproduced well.

Coolpad Cool 3 Plus is powered by a quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 processor.  It integrates four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2 GHz. The smartphone also comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. For graphical performance that can make games run smoothly, this phone has got a PowerVR GE8300 GPU.

Coolpad Cool 3 Plus has a hybrid SIM slot in which you can either put two nano SIM cards or a single nano SIM card and a microSD card. Connectivity options on the Coolpad Cool 3 Plus include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth v5.00, USB OTG, Micro-USB, 3G, and 4G LTE. The smartphone also has accelerometer, ambient light sensor, compass/ magnetometer, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor.

As far as the camera is concerned Coolpad Cool 3 Plus consists of 13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera for selfies and video calling. We took some shots using the smartphone and we will share them when we do a full review. Both the front and back cameras seem to be adequate given the price of the phone.

The smartphone comes with Android 9 Pie out of the box. We can use the Pie’s features using the smartphone. Coolpad Cool 3 plus comes with 3000mAh battery which should run for a single day without any problem. According to Coolpad, the smartphone has a talk time of 23 hourss and a standby time of 250 hours.

Inside the box of the smartphone we can find a Charger, USB Cable, Warranty Card, Quick Start Guide, Eject tool, Protective Case and Protective Screen Film. The smartphone has a warranty for 1 year.

Verdict

Coolpad Cool 3 Plus is a budget phone in which there is a battery of 3000mAh.  There is a lot of competition for this smartphone in this budget range. Coolpad is back and that it a good thing. They could have made a better device. We can find double and triple camera smartphone in this price range and the competition is very tough in this price range.
