Dell EMC VxRail has successfully driven business growth for KPIT Technologies (KPIT), a global IT consulting and product engineering organization. KPIT partnered with Dell EMC® to implement a range of products to modernize and innovate its data center. KPIT is one of the first companies in India to implement hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) to simplify its IT operations.
The organization began its partnership with Dell EMC in 2010, implementing the Dell EMC Vblock™ converged infrastructure platform for its virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) running on VMware® View. When KPIT wanted to extend its virtual desktops to all users, resulting in nearly double its VDI reach, the company migrated its storage solution to Dell EMC XtremIO™, while the Dell EMC Vblock and Dell EMC VSPEX® continued to support the company’s other mission-critical applications.
In early 2016 KPIT had plans to utilize public cloud services for its new growth areas due to its requirement for cost-efficient storage that would enable it to start small and scale over time. The Dell EMC team proposed that KPIT would benefit from the extreme configuration flexibility of hyper-converged infrastructure, which can be matched precisely to meet its business requirements. As a result of discussions with Dell EMC, KPIT selected Dell EMC VxRail hyper-converged infrastructure appliance for its development and test environments, and backup and recovery.
“Working with Dell EMC meant the exact sizing could be proposed based on storage I/O and backend requirements. We can start with just a few nodes and scale the capacity and performance as we need to, which provides time for our new growth areas to develop, without locking our money into the infrastructure. Within six months we had gone from discussions to putting the VxRail into production. It’s a fantastic example of the flexibility the solution has provided through its easy to configure platform and how quick it is to transition to hyper-converged infrastructure.” said Mandar Marulkar, Chief Digital Officer, KPIT Technologies.
KPIT is meeting the challenges of its digital transformation through investing in infrastructure that quickly harnesses innovation. The company can grow new business incrementally, scaling performance and capacity in response to internal and market demands. This delivers KPIT with the business agility and flexibility that modern businesses need. KPIT integrated Dell EMC VxRail™ appliance seamlessly into its existing IT infrastructure.
The Dell EMC VxRail appliance is located at its site in Bangalore and comes fully loaded with integrated Dell EMC mission-critical data services including data protection with the Dell EMC Data Domain. Instead of purchasing additional separate appliances, KPIT now has access to Dell EMC Data Protection Suite running on the hyper-converged infrastructure to provide backup and recovery services and management and monitoring capabilities.
“HCI is the fastest-growing part of the IT infrastructure market as businesses of all sizes continue to desire substantial infrastructure simplification. Gartner expects it to go to a $5 billion market by 2019, becoming the category leader by revenue in pre-integrated full-stack infrastructure products. One of the key advantage of a hyper-converged appliance is the flexibility to integrate data protection across the organization by utilizing existing investments and best of breed technology. Dell EMC VxRail guarantees uptime and data protection to meet KPIT’s required RPO/RTO. Integration with the company’s existing Dell EMC Data Domain means backup data can be stored away from Dell EMC VxRail, enabling better return on investment because the appliance is utilized for mission critical data.” said Anshuman Rai, Director Sales, Converged Platforms & Solution Division – Dell EMC.
KPIT leverages public cloud storage for low-cost data archiving, especially for smaller, new growth areas of the business. Dell EMC VxRail includes Dell EMC CloudArray to provide the company with a simple way to integrate public and private cloud storage resources. KPIT is benefiting from its strong relationship with Dell EMC and the alignment between business needs and technology. KPIT now has a single point of global 24/7 support for all hardware and software, improving its management efficiency. This is backed up by Dell EMC Secure Remote Services (ESRS) for secure two-way remote connection for monitoring, diagnosis, and repair. With high growth projected as a result of its commitment to developing digital technologies, KPIT is looking to how its infrastructure will scale and transform with its business.
