In line with its efforts to revolutionize the smartphone market with industry-first innovations in the camera segment, OPPO has been rated as the No.1 brand in India for supporting the best hybrid zoom capabilities in a smartphone for Q2-Q3 2019. According to a study conducted by Counterpoint Research, OPPO has also been adjudged as the bestselling quad-camera brand in the offline channel and a leader in the quad-camera segment with a 45% shipment share which grew almost 6x Q-0-Q in Q4 2019.

The study, which was conducted with a group of mid-to-high range smartphone users who are interested in the latest smartphone features further highlighted the latest consumer behavior and future buying preferences in India. As per the study, camera capability is among the top three determinants in smartphone purchase followed by longer battery life and a better processor.

Commenting on the recognition, Mr. Tasleem Arif, VP – R&D, OPPO India said, “As a consumer-centric brand, OPPO has always laid emphasis on revolutionizing technology that is most meaningful to consumers. We understand that top-notch camera, long battery life and powerful performance in a smartphone are the prerequisites for most consumers and our R&D team works relentlessly to set new benchmarks in these domains. This recognition from Counterpoint Research further validates our continued efforts in this direction and encourages us to further elevate consumer experience through new innovation.”

Pavel Naiya, Senior Analyst from Counterpoint Research said, “Our consumer research repeatedly highlights the importance of camera when it comes to the smartphone purchase consideration by end consumers. The trend of consumers increasingly documenting their moments on social media platforms is on the rise. OPPO has been always been at the forefront of camera innovation and our study further testifies their capability in bringing new smartphone camera-related features faster in the market. With the brand committed to launching new smart devices in India in the coming year, it would be exciting to see the new consumer-centric innovation, the brand is bringing to the fore.”

The study highlighted that in the race of multidimensional camera features, megapixels are a qualifying factor but not the winning feature anymore. The multi-camera setups with a combination of ultra-wide, telephoto and macro lenses, along with AI-based software optimization have made a significant impact on recent smartphone photography performance.  Other factors like image stabilization, design of the camera and portrait mode are considered as influencing factors that will play a significant role in the next smartphone purchase decision by a consumer. Furthermore, more than half of the consumers now have a positive attitude towards having a smartphone camera with a better zooming capability. About 60% of the consumers are interested in a smartphone with Hybrid or Optical zoom, while about 40% of the consumers preferred Hybrid Zoom in their next smartphone.

OPPO has established itself as a pioneer in smartphone innovation and has transformed the world of smartphone photography with industry-first innovations. OPPO took a lead in popularizing Hybrid Zoom in India with the launch of OPPO Reno 10X Zoom in May 2019. It became the first smartphone brand to introduce a 5x optical zoom with a 10x Hybrid zoom and maximum zoom capacity of 60x in the Indian market. Continuing their supremacy in the camera department, OPPO is aiming to establish new benchmarks by introducing the world’s first 44+2MP Dual punch hole camera with the launch of OPPO Reno3 Pro on 2nd March 2020. By bringing new industry-first innovations in Reno3 Pro, OPPO is all set to take forward the legacy to redefine the frontiers of innovation in the imaging segment.
