Mobiistar X1 Notch First Impressions: Good Looking Budget Phone

Mobiistar is a Vietnamese smartphone brand which came to India in May 2018 and they have a very well established offline presence after they introduced their Star Selfie Series. Their latest offering released today is The Mobiistar X1 Notch. We spent time with the phone and here are our first impressions of this phone.

Mobiistar has today launched its new smartphone – the X1 Notch. As the name suggests, the smartphone maker comes with its first notch phone with a 13MP AI selfie camera present inside the notch. The device also has a battery capacity of 3020mAh. This device will be available in 3 colors – Gradient Shine, Midnight Black and Sapphire Blue. The Mobiistar X1 Notch will also be available in 2 variants – 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM and 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM.

We have received the Gradient Shine color and memory of 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. Here is our first impression of the Mobiistar X1 Notch. This article is based full on this version.

At a first glance, Mobiistar X1 Notch looks impressive with its gradient design. The smartphone has a curved glass design with dual color glass back. The device looks takes on different colors when light hits it in different angles. On one viewing angle we can see the blue color while on the other we can see the purple color. In some angle we can see both the colors with straight lines. Overall the finish is good. It looks like a premium device and the glass finish feels good to the touch.

The smartphone comes with a single 13MP rear camera with LED flash present just below the camera. The fingerprint reader is present below the camera housing  but more in the middle and the branding is present below the fingerprint reader. The device comes with shiny and reflective back side with curved finish on the edges. On the front side of the smartphone, a notch is present with 13MP selfie camera. The notch looks little bigger than most notches that we have seen so far. On the bottom of the smartphone, we have speakers on both sides with micro USB port present in the middle. The right side of the device sports volume rockers and the power button while the left side has the SIM tray. The top of the smartphone has the audio jack. The device fits comfortably in our hands.

Mobiistar X1 Notch comes with a charger, a micro USB wire, a headset, a SIM ejector and a transparent silicone cover to protect the smartphone.

Coming to the display, the device comes with 5.71 inch HD+ display with a notch on the top. The device has a screen resolution of 720 X 1498 pixels. The display looks clear and crisp and we can see well even in sunlight.

The phone comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM which we can expand with microSD card. The SIM tray can accommodate two nano SIMs and a microSD card can also be added. Luckily they do not have the Hybrid SIM slots. Both the SIM slots are 4G VoLTE enabled. We tried our JIO SIM and it worked just fine. There is also a 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage variant available.

Mobiistar X1 Notch has a battery capacity of 3020mAh Lithium ion battery which looks decent. The device comes with fingerprint reader and face unlock features.

Mobiistar X1 Notch comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The software looks light and easy to use. There aren’t that many custom options to see in the skin. So far in the first few days of use, we found it to be on par with the other devices in the same segment.

Mobiistar X1 Notch looks promising in the budget range with its gradient shine and dual colors with the battery capacity of 3020mAh. The look and feel is very good and people will easily mistake it for one of the more mainstream premium devices. The device is clearly targeting the budget buyer in the offline segment and it looks like the got a lot of things right in the making and specifications department. One peeve that we have is that they could have gone with a dual camera in the rear, but then that is just a peeve and not a major issue at all.

Given the nature of the offline market and the mindset of the offline buyer, it looks like the Mobiistar X1 Notch is a good looking budget phone as far as first impressions go. Stay tuned for a full review after we put this phone through the paces and see how it does. So far, it looks like it ticks all the boxes that one would expect in first impressions. After the first phone, it will be interesting to see where Mobiistar goes with this device that is their second offering in the Indian market that has an extremely aggressive and crowded budget segment.
