Red Hat OpenShift Supports Alpitour Group’s Digital Transformation

Digital Transformation

Red Hat, Inc., the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Alpitour Group, the Italian leader in tourism and one of the most important players in Europe, has chosen Red Hat OpenShift as the hybrid cloud platform of choice for its digital transformation as it looks to adapt faster to changing environments and be at the forefront of bringing innovative experiences to customers.

With the help of Red Hat and Kiratech, we are building an open hybrid cloud platform to integrate multiple systems and applications, to streamline and automate processes, enabling us to expand our offerings and deliver them to customers and industry partners faster

Based in Italy, Alpitour Group has around 4,000 employees and a network of 5,000 travel agencies throughout the country, and operates in more than 29 countries. The Alpitour group owns a number of well-known brands including the airline Neos, the VOIhotel hotel chain and the incoming company Jumbotours.

In 2019, Alpitour Group launched a comprehensive internal technology transformation program to support its core business and sales systems in the area of tour operating. The Group wanted to move from a mainframe-dependent architecture to a more flexible infrastructure that would enable the business to adapt rapidly to changing needs and improve time to market. Alpitour wanted to build an open platform and integration layer to better enable rich and deep collaborations with partners on joint offerings, allowing it to take advantage of new opportunities in the evolving tourism ecosystem.

With the support of Red Hat Consulting and Kiratech, a Red Hat Advanced Partner and long-standing technology advisor to the Group, Alipitour defined the migration of applications from the company’s legacy systems to Red Hat OpenShift, the industry’s leading enterprise Kubernetes platform, including Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage, as a common foundation across the business, with Red Hat Enterprise Linux as its hybrid cloud backbone. Alpitour deployed Red Hat Integration to connect heterogeneous applications, data and devices, including Red Hat AMQ Streams, a massively scalable, distributed, and high-performance data streaming platform based on the Apache Kafka project, and Red Hat Fuse. Shared vision and processes between the business and IT was important for Alpitour, and across its teams it adopted open communication and agile development methodologies such as DevOps with the help of Red Hat and Kiratech.

With roughly half of the migration complete today, Alpitour is already seeing benefits from adopting Red Hat technologies. Faster applications releases and an overall acceleration across product development has enabled the organization to respond more quickly to market changes. By combining the scalability of the hybrid cloud with greater automation supported by Red Hat technologies, Alpitour anticipates it will continue to see improvements in operational efficiency and time to market.
